Police in Dallas say Thomas Johnson, a former wide receiver at Texas A&M, randomly hacked a jogger to death with a machete early Monday. Johnson then admitted to the crime and even reported it by calling police from a nearby location, Fox 4 in Dallas is reporting.

Johnson, 21, recently had been kicked out of his home, police say. He had been arrested on charges of evading arrest, burglary of a habitation and auto theft last year after breaking into his aunt’s home to steal money and her minivan. According to the Dallas Morning News, he received probation for those crimes, a sentence that was revoked after he tested positive for marijuana and failed to meet other conditions.
