The Milky Way galaxy is so vast that it takes 70,000 years for light to travel from one end to the other and its stars number a hundred billion - yet it's just one of billions like it. What are the limits to the universe? And what does the universe look like? Nearly 70 years after astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe is far larger than ever imagined - and growing ever larger - the space telescope that bears his name has opened a stunning new window into deep space. MYSTERIES OF DEEP SPACE, a series of three one-hour programs, dives into the vastness of space as it presents the boldest new achievements of modern astronomy, joining astronomers as they probe the limits of the observable universe and peer into the violent worlds of black holes and supernovas.

Combining live-action sequences, state-of-the-art computer animation and spectacular high-resolution images from the Hubble Space Telescope, the series provides viewers with a stunning new perspective on the universe.

MYSTERIES OF DEEP SPACE originally premiered in April 1997 and is no longer airing on PBS stations. The VHS set can be purchased online at ShopPBS.
